Things to Do in Surat This Weekend: 30 Ideas (2026 Guide)

Updated 2026-10-12 · 7 min read · by the surat2go team

This is our evergreen list of 30 weekend ideas in Surat, grouped by mood: heritage, food, outdoors, entertainment, family and free. Each one comes with its area and the simplest way to reach it, so you can pair things that are close together. For the events actually happening this Saturday and Sunday, from comedy line-ups to workshops and garba, check our live this weekend in Surat page, which updates every day.

Two things shape every plan here. Surat has no metro in service yet, so you will be using Sitilink buses, the BRTS, autos and cabs. And Gujarat is a dry state, so evenings are built around food and shows rather than bars.

Heritage and culture

1. Surat Fort. Built for Sultan Mahmud Shah III and completed in 1546 to keep the Portuguese off the port, the fort reopened in 2022 after a restoration costing about ₹55 crore. You can walk the bastions, the re-excavated moat and the drawbridge, and see the galleries inside. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm, but entry stops at 4:10 pm. Tickets are ₹100 for adults and ₹50 for ages 3–16 and over-60s. Chowk Bazar; bus to Chowk. See the venue page.

2. Gopi Talav. A lake dug around 1510 by the merchant Malik Gopi, dry for centuries, then revived by the municipal corporation and reopened in 2015. It now has a fountain plaza, an amphitheatre and boating, and is at its best after dark. Gopipura; a short auto ride from Chowk.

3. The English, Dutch and Armenian cemeteries. Seventeenth-century traders built themselves mausoleums here that borrow from Hindu and Islamic architecture. They are protected monuments, photography is not allowed inside, and you may need to ask the way. Near Katargam Darwaja; BRTS to Katargam Darwaja.

4. Rander’s old lanes. Rander was a port before Surat was: Arab merchants settled here in 1225. Look for the one-pillar Quwat-e-Islam Masjid and the Nagina Mosque, and be respectful about entering. Rander; BRTS towards Jahangirpura. More routes are on our heritage walks page.

5. The Science Centre. Hands-on galleries, a Diamond Gallery, the Khoj museum and a 140-seat planetarium with shows in Gujarati, Hindi and English. Entry to the main galleries is ₹60 for adults and ₹40 for ages 5–18. Tickets are sold from 9:30 am to 3 pm, and it is closed on Mondays. City Light Road; city bus or auto.

Food

7. Locho for breakfast. Surat’s own steamed gram-flour snack, looser than khaman, served hot with oil or butter, sev, onion and chutney. Go in the morning. Counters across the old city, Athwalines and Adajan.

8. Khaman, rasawala khaman and sev khamani. The rest of the breakfast counter. Order a mixed plate if you are new to it.

9. Tomato bhajiya at Dumas. The beach promenade is lined with bhajiya stalls, and the Lashkari tomato bhajiya is the famous order, with charcoal-roasted sweetcorn on the side. Dumas; route 216 from Chowk.

10. Ponk, in season. Tender green sorghum, roasted and eaten with sev. Stalls appear from November to late February, with the best of it in December and January.

11. Undhiyu and puri, in winter. The slow-cooked mix of winter beans, purple yam, brinjal and methi muthia that Surat is known for. Farsan shops sell it by weight through the cold months.

12. Ghari, if it is late October. On Chandi Padvo, expected on Monday 26 October 2026, the city eats this ghee-rich mawa sweet with spicy bhusu. Our Chandi Padvo page explains the custom.

13. Khaudra Gali. A lane of food stalls known especially for Mysore dosa. More ideas are in our street food guide.

Outdoors

14. Dumas Beach at sunset. Dark sand, the Dariya Ganesh temple beside the main beach, and a crowd that comes to walk and eat. Gujarat Tourism lists it as open from dawn to dusk. About 21 km south-west of the centre and 7 km past the airport.

15. Suvali Beach. The quiet alternative: black sand, very few stalls and a piece of history, since an English fleet beat the Portuguese here in 1612. Take your own vehicle and leave before dark. Hazira side, 20–25 km from the centre.

16. Sarthana Nature Park. Surat’s municipal zoo, on 81 acres between the Kamrej road and the Tapi. Entry is ₹30 for ages 12 and above and ₹20 for children aged 3–12. Admission is from 10 am to 5 pm, and it is closed on Mondays. Sarthana; Sitilink route 12 ends at the gate.

17. Sneh Rashmi Botanical Garden. A riverside garden with more than 1,000 plant species, according to Gujarat Tourism. Closed on Mondays. Ugat, beyond Rander.

18. An evening on the Dumas Road. The stretch through Piplod is where the city goes for a drive, an ice cream and a late dinner. Piplod; city buses run along the road.

Entertainment

Weekend tips

  • Mondays catch out long-weekend plans. The Science Centre, the fort and the zoo all close on Monday.
  • Watch the last-entry times. Science Centre tickets stop at 3 pm and the fort at 4:10 pm, so do them first and the beach last.
  • Start early or late. Surat is hot and humid for most of the year. Mornings and evenings are for the outdoors; midday is for air-conditioning.
  • Carry ID. Comedy rooms and ticketed garba ask for a government photo ID.
  • Sort out your ride home. Buses thin out at night, Dumas and Suvali have little return transport, and the metro is not open yet.
  • Winter is the season. From Navratri in October to Uttarayan in January, there is more on, and the food is at its best.

Whatever you choose, the live list of events for Saturday and Sunday is always on this weekend in Surat.
