About Lalbhai Contractor Stadium
Lalbhai Contractor Stadium is Surat's first-class cricket ground, owned by the Surat District Cricket Association (SDCA) and used by the Gujarat team. It has hosted domestic cricket since 1993, when a Duleep Trophy match between West Zone and East Zone opened the ground, and Ranji Trophy, Irani Cup and Duleep Trophy fixtures have followed. Its first internationals came in 2019, when India's women played South Africa in a T20I series here between 24 September and 4 October. Chennai Super Kings also used it for their training camp before the 2022 IPL season. The ground holds about 7,000, and the association has spoken of expanding it to 30,000. Fixtures are announced each season by the BCCI and the Gujarat Cricket Association, so check the schedule rather than assuming a match is on.
