Heritage Walks, Fort & Museums in Surat

Nothing is listed for coming up yet β€” new events are added every morning, so check back soon.

Surat was one of the great ports of the Indian Ocean, and the evidence is still standing. The Surat Fort at Chowk Bazar, completed in 1546 against Portuguese raids, reopened in 2022 after restoration and is open Tuesday to Sunday with entry at β‚Ή100. Gopi Talav, a lake built around 1510, lies to its south. Near Katargam Darwaja, the English, Dutch and Armenian cemeteries hold the mausoleums of 17th-century traders. Across the Tapi, Rander, a port before Surat, keeps the one-pillar Quwat-e-Islam Masjid and the Nagina Mosque, and at Suvali an English fleet defeated the Portuguese in 1612. The Surat Municipal Corporation offers a Heritage Walk app for self-guided routes. This page lists heritage walks, museum events and history talks in Surat.
