About Suvali Beach
Suvali Beach is the quieter of Surat's two beaches, a long stretch of black sand on the Arabian Sea near Suvali village in the Hazira belt, about 20–25 km west of the city centre. Gujarat Tourism describes it as a calm, clean beach that draws people looking for solitude. It also has a past as an anchorage: known to the English as Swally, it was where East India Company ships lay off Surat, and Captain Thomas Best defeated a Portuguese squadron here in 1612. Expect far fewer stalls and facilities than at Dumas, and an approach through industrial Hazira. A government-backed Suvali Beach Festival has been held here in past winters; no dates for the 2026–27 season had been confirmed when this guide was written.
