Best Live Music and Comedy Venues in Surat (2026 Guide)
Updated 2026-10-12 · 7 min read · by the surat2go team
Surat’s live circuit is small and easy to read once you sort it by size. Arena tours play the Indoor Stadium in Athwalines. Musical nights and Gujarati plays use the municipal auditoriums in Pal, Varachha and Nanpura. Stand-up lives in two rooms, The Green Room in Vesu and the Performing Art Centre in Pal. And for a few weeks each October, the biggest stages in the city are garba grounds. This guide covers the venues that matter in 2026, what each is good for and how to get there. For dates, see our live music listings and comedy listings.
One thing to know before you plan: Gujarat is a dry state. No venue here serves alcohol, which changes the feel of a night out. Shows are the main event, audiences are mixed in age, and many nights are family-friendly.

The arena: Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium
The Indoor Stadium is the only room in Surat built for arena-scale shows. The municipal corporation opened it on 18 December 1998, and it is centrally air-conditioned around a 63 m by 33 m floor, with about 6,800 seats in fixed stands. On most days it is a sports hall for badminton, table tennis, volleyball and basketball. For concerts, organisers add floor seating and a stage.
Touring Bollywood and Gujarati acts are its staple. A date on Sachin–Jigar’s ‘Apna Bana Le’ India tour was listed here for December 2026, though the listing showed a date range rather than a fixed night, so confirm on the ticketing page before you book. The stadium is on Indoor Stadium Lane near Ritz Square. Athwalines is slow before big shows, so get dropped on the main road and walk in.
The municipal auditoriums
Surat’s mid-sized shows almost all happen in halls owned by the Surat Municipal Corporation. Seating is numbered, and the buildings are spread across the city rather than clustered in one district.
Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium, Pal. Named after the Surat-born film actor, this is behind the Rajhans cinema on Hazira Road. It is the west side’s regular stage for Gujarati plays and retro music nights. ‘The Magic of Mukesh’, a live tribute evening, is listed for 26 December 2026 from 9:15 pm to midnight. Details are on the venue page.
Sardar Smruti Bhavan, Varachha. With 1,201 seats, a 65 ft by 35 ft wooden stage and six green rooms, this is the main hall for the eastern half of the city. It sits at Mini Bazar beside the corporation’s multi-level car park, which makes parking easier than at most venues in the city.
Rang Upvan, Nanpura. A former open-air theatre in the old city, now roofed, with stepped stone seating for nearly 1,400. The corporation lists it for drama, classical and folk dance, ras-garba, ghazal and qawwali nights and mushairas. Carry a cushion.
Tara Moti Hall, Athwalines. A college auditorium on the MTB College campus, opposite Chowpatty. It suits listening audiences: Kavyaraag, a poetry-and-music mehfil by Chinmayi Tripathi and Joell Mukherjii, is listed for 31 October 2026 with seats from ₹699 to ₹1,199.
Smaller rooms. The Science Centre on City Light Road has a 260-seat auditorium and a circular 250-seat amphitheatre used for small concerts and cultural shows, and the Swami Vivekanand Auditorium at Umarwada has 317 seats.
Where the comedy is
Stand-up is now a weekly fixture in Surat’s listings, and two rooms carry most of it.
The Green Room, Vesu. At Shyam Plaza on VIP Road, this is the city’s busiest comedy address. Between October 2026 and January 2027 its listings included Aakash Mehta’s ‘The Wedding Show’, Banker OP, The Galipally Show, Phulka Dots with Amruta Bendre, Devesh Dixit and Harpriya Bains. It also runs The Kahani Openmic, an afternoon open mic for storytellers, comics, poets and musicians. Shows are generally 18+ with a government photo ID checked at the door.
Performing Art Centre, Pal. The corporation’s arts complex on L.P. Savani Road has a 309-seat auditorium that has become the stop for touring names. Sundeep Sharma’s ‘Tab Tum Kahaan The?’ is listed for 24 October 2026, Inder Sahani’s ‘Daru Badnaam’ for 20 November and Rahul Subramanian’s ‘Don’t Give Your Best’ for 13 December. The shows listed here run from 9 pm to about 10:30 pm, and the room is small, so book early. The same building rents rehearsal, music, dance and recording rooms by the session, which is useful if you perform.
Osari, Pal. A newer listing at Bellisimo Hub on Gauravpath Road. ‘Gaurav Baisla Live’, a 75-minute Hindi show, is scheduled for 29 November 2026 with a 16+ rule.
Café line-ups. Cheaper shows appear at cafés around the city. One October 2026 line-up, ‘Khi Khi’, was listed from ₹149. These are the nights where newer comics get stage time, so quality varies and that is part of the appeal. If you want to try five minutes yourself, our open mic page explains how sign-ups work.
Indie, electronic and café gigs
Original music outside the Bollywood, folk and devotional mainstream is still uncommon in Surat. When it happens, it tends to be at a café. Soil Coffee House, at Napoleon Estate behind VR Surat in Magdalla, is listed for a live electronic night on Saturday 31 October 2026: sets played on synthesizers and instruments rather than DJ decks, projection mapping, and a synthesizer workshop. Entry was listed at ₹500, or ₹900 with the workshop, for ages 12 and above.
Devotional music turns up in new formats too: a ‘Bhajan Clubbing’ night was listed in the city for 17 October 2026, with the venue to be announced.
The seasonal stages: garba grounds
For the nine nights of Navratri, the best-attended live music in Surat is at the garba grounds, where singers and their bands perform for hours to thousands of dancers. In October 2026 the big ticketed grounds were the C.B. Patel stadium parking ground in Abhva, where Yashvi Navratri opened with Purva Mantri and listed a Falguni Pathak night for 22 October, and Balar Farm in Vesu, home of The Global Garba Village. Prices ran from ₹1,999 for a single night to ₹12,999 for a top season pass. Community grounds such as Nilgiri Ground in Limbayat charged ₹99 to ₹199.
After Navratri, look for mandli garba nights, where the singing is live and the crowd joins in. One is listed at Advaitaa in Dumas for 24 October 2026 at ₹1,500. Our Navratri garba page has the full picture.

Practical tips
- Shows start late. A 9 pm start is normal, and musical nights can run to midnight. Check the end time, not just the start.
- Plan the ride home. There is no metro yet, and buses thin out at night. Book a cab or keep an auto, especially from Pal and Vesu.
- Carry photo ID. Comedy rooms and ticketed garba check it, and age limits of 16+ or 18+ are common.
- Book small rooms early. The Performing Art Centre has 309 seats, and well-known comics fill it.
- Check the address twice. Several venues are inside larger buildings or campuses: The Green Room is on an upper floor of Shyam Plaza, Tara Moti Hall is inside the MTB College campus, and the Sanjeev Kumar Auditorium is behind a cinema.
- Eat nearby. Pal and Adajan for the west-side halls, VIP Road for Vesu, and the Dumas Road for anything near Magdalla.
