Althan and Bhatar, south of City Light, are fast-growing residential areas along the canal road, with community halls, party plots and society grounds that fill up for Navratri garba, wedding exhibitions and festive fairs. The Bhatar–Althan Road is also the approach to the Sarsana exhibition centre, so traffic thickens on expo days. Althan is the city end of the first Surat Metro stretch, 8.5 km from Dream City, where trial runs began in spring 2026; reports in August said it was likely to open around the end of November 2026, so check before counting on it. Until then the Canal Road BRTS and Sitilink buses do the work.
