Things to do in Chowk Bazaar & Old City

Nothing is listed for in chowk bazaar & old city yet β€” new events are added every morning, so check back soon.

Chowk Bazaar is the historic core of Surat on the Tapi's left bank. The Surat Fort, completed in 1546 for Sultan Mahmud Shah III to hold off Portuguese raids, was restored by the municipal corporation and reopened in 2022; it is open Tuesday to Sunday. Around it are the Mughal Sarai, which houses municipal offices, old cloth and jari lanes, and the Bhagal and Zampa Bazaar food streets. Gopi Talav, a lake built around 1510 by the merchant Malik Gopi and redeveloped as a recreation park in 2015, lies to the south in Gopipura. Buses to Dumas start at Chowk, and the lanes are best covered on foot.
