Things to do in Rander & Jahangirpura

Rander, on the Tapi about 2 km from the old city, was a trading port before Surat was. Arab merchants settled here in 1225, and its ships traded with Malacca, Bengal and Sumatra until the Portuguese sacked the town around 1530. Its lanes still hold old mosques, including the one-pillar Quwat-e-Islam Masjid and the Nagina Mosque. During Ramzan the streets around Botawala Lane become a night food market for khawsa, Rangooni paratha, aloo puri and kulfi set in earthen pots. Jahangirpura, further north, has the ISKCON temple, and the Sneh Rashmi Botanical Garden is at Ugat. The BRTS runs from Adajan Patiya to Jahangirpura.
