Things to do in Dumas

Dumas is Surat's own beach, about 21 km south-west of the city centre on the Arabian Sea. The sand is dark, almost black, and people come to walk, ride and eat rather than to swim. The Dariya Ganesh temple stands beside the main beach, and the promenade is a row of snack stalls known for bhajiya, especially the Lashkari tomato bhajiya, along with pav bhaji, Indian-Chinese plates and charcoal-roasted sweetcorn. Gujarat Tourism lists the beach as open from dawn to dusk. Local folklore also calls it haunted, which only adds to its pull after sunset. Route 216 runs here from Chowk.
